Why is this so difficult?

What is so difficult? Complete surrender, submission, obedience, and gratitude in all things. Maybe if you’re a saint, it’s a walk in the park. But for most of us, being a Christian is hard work. Why? Because dying daily to sin and self is a moment-by-moment choice. We aren’t robots. Our Father gives us a choice. But He also provides us with the help we need – if we want and accept it. He gives us His Word – through the Bible with instruction, warning, and encouragement. He provides us with the church – to strengthen our faith in worship and Christian relationship with others. He gives us Himself, through His Holy Spirit, to empower, prompt, teach and convict. But yes, with all of these, because of our fullness of sin, it is still difficult – to say no to me and yes to God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Be encouraged today. Despite the struggle, the temptation, and the sin. Despite doubts, trust. Trust in the Lord. Pray for forgiveness, and submit once again. The point isn’t where you are at this moment; the point is where we end up. And God is faithful to lead us to our eternal home because of Jesus. He WILL make straight your paths.

And can it be that I should gain
An int'rest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!

He left His Father's throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race;
'Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray,
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free;
I rose, went forth and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th'eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
